A pasta pool party with my girls
A few weeks ago I finally worked up the courage to tell my goddaughters that I was leaving to go travel indefinitely. They were both upset and we talked at length about ways we could stay in touch, how we would write and skype and I would send them e-mails and postcards and trinkets. I also promised that before I left we could have a fun day/sleepover at my house and they could plan it out, we could do whatever activities they wanted to do. I was expecting them to choose things they normally did when they slept at my house- crafts, baking, face masks. By the end of the conversation, I had somehow promised them that we would have a sleepover complete with henna and face masks, that we would make paintings and that we would fill a baby pool with spaghetti noodles. I still have no idea how they got me to agree to it, but I am a woman of my word, so last Saturday afternoon the girls came over to find a baby pool filled to the brim with pasta. We put on our swim suits and hopped in. After getting over the initial weird tactile sensation of having thousands of noodles around you, we drank virgin cocktails in the pool, had spaghetti fights and laid in it until we were pruney and shivering. My friend Alicia from Life by Mom came by to snap a few photos and here are a few of the best ones.
(Also, if anyone is wondering, it takes 23 packages of primo spaghetti to fill a baby pool. I cooked 1 1/2 bags in each of my 3 large pots, drained it and kept the noodles in cold water in large tupperware bins until we dumped them in the pool. It took about 7 hours of consecutive pasta boiling. Totally worth it)
